Vinfast Sales Surge 122% in India; Outselling Tesla by 6x in 2025

The Vietnamese EV giant overtook Tesla in November with 291 units sold, as compared to only 48 units sold for the latter; more than doubling its October performance in India.

VinFast, since launching officially in India in September 2025, continues to show a headstrong growth in the EV sector. In the month of October itself, it sold six times more than Tesla, and doubled its growth from the previous month, according to official data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).

FADA’s retail report shows VinFast delivering 291 EVs in November, significantly higher than Tesla’s 48-unit tally. The performance marks a sharp rise for the Vietnamese automaker, which had sold 131 units in October, with a sales growth rate (122%) more than doubling month-on-month. Hence, it has become one of the most closely watched companies in India’s rapidly growing electric mobility segment.

Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast recorded a notable jump in retail sales in India in November 2025, surpassing Tesla by a wide margin, according to the latest data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). Although overall volumes remain modest for both brands, the month’s figures underline how swiftly VinFast has gained traction since its entry into the Indian market.

Tesla, on the other hand, posted slower progress. Its November sales improved from 40 units in October, translating into a 20% month-on-month increase. While the American company continues to command strong brand recall in India, its retail momentum has remained subdued so far.

According to analysts, competitive pricing and local assembly were the key factors that helped VinFast outperform the premium-priced Tesla Model Y in India. It also offers more choice, aka the VF6 and VF7 models, priced at Rs 16.49 lakh and Rs 20.89 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. This gives it an edge over Tesla’s Model Y, which costs about ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom).

In terms of domestic brands, Tata Motors continued to dominate. The homegrown manufacturer sold 6,153 electric vehicles in November, and reinforced its status as the clear market leader.
