It is connected to other prime residential areas like Vasant Kunj, Munirka, Delhi Cantt, RK Puram, not to mention other important areas like army cantonments, etc. A place of residence and business for a lot of politicians, entrepreneurs, and HNIs, it is one of the most important, high-profile areas in the city.

As a result, traffic activity in the area remains heavy. This directly means that RTOs have a massive presence in the area’s hectic traffic network. The fast pace and high-alluring culture mean that knowing the ins and outs of the traffic activity can save you a lot of precious time and money. And for that, you may as well have to at least pay a visit to the local RTO (DL-12), whether you’re a resident or just someone who commutes professionally.

DL-12 is the registration code for South West Zone II's Zonal Transport Office, operating under the Transport Department, Government of NCT of Delhi. It is the licensing authority (Section 9) and registering authority (Section 39) under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, for South West Delhi's Vasant Vihar catchment — the area covers embassies, diplomatic residences, and several established South Delhi residential colonies, alongside more commercial stretches like R.K. Puram.

Faceless Online vs Physical Attendance

Most routine DL-12 paperwork — many registration-related applications, ownership transfer, and licence renewals in a number of cases — can be filed through Delhi's faceless e-services on Parivahan/Sarathi/Vahan without a counter visit. Steps that still require attendance in person include the practical driving test, biometric verification for certain licence services, and commercial vehicle fitness inspection.

Exactly which services are fully paperless changes over time and wasn't something we could confirm service-by-service for this office. Don't assume you need to visit the counter just because an older guide or a competitor page says so — check the current service list on Parivahan first.

Driving Licence and the Practical Test (ADTT)

The Vasant Vihar office is not where the practical driving test happens. Delhi's Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) are separate facilities — DL-12 candidates are directed to either the Hari Nagar or Lado Sarai track, depending on slot allocation. We independently confirmed Lado Sarai as a real, currently operating Delhi ADTT (Delhi has at least 16 of these tracks citywide). We could not confirm the exact rule governing which candidates get routed to which track, so don't assume either location — your booking confirmation through Sarathi will state the assigned track.

Commercial Vehicle Fitness and Inspection

Commercial vehicle fitness inspection for DL-12 is not conducted at the Vasant Vihar office. Vehicles have historically been directed to the Inspection & Certification (I&C) Centre, Burari — a long-standing, well-documented facility. Delhi has also been expanding automated fitness testing to other locations (including Jhuljhuli and Nand Nagri), with three more stations planned by March 2026, so a commercial vehicle from DL-12's jurisdiction may be booked into any of these depending on slot availability, not necessarily Burari specifically. Confirm your assigned centre when you book your fitness slot.

How to Reach DL-12

• Metro: Vasant Vihar station (Magenta Line, opened 2018) sits in the same PIN area as the office (110057); Munirka station is the next stop, and R.K. Puram is one stop further. We don't have a confirmed walking distance from the station to the depot itself.

• Bus: DTC routes serve the depot directly, since the office sits inside a DTC bus depot.

• Road: Ring Road and Nelson Mandela Marg both serve this part of South West Delhi.

• Parking: Limited inside the depot complex; surrounding residential streets have their own restrictions. Arriving by metro is more reliable than driving in.
