It is the licensing authority (Section 9) and registering authority (Section 39) under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, for Janakpuri, Palam, Uttam Nagar, Dabri and the Dwarka-adjacent pockets of South West Delhi.

The practical driving test for DL-09 is not conducted at the Janakpuri/Palam office.
