KR Puram RTO (KA-53) – Address, Timings & Services

If you’ve been living in Bengaluru for a while, you’re most likely participating in the city’s vibrant pub culture, IPL viewing parties, and (even) political rallies. However, in the midst of your Quixotic adventures, you (we’re pretty sure) may have spotted a car or a bike with a KA-53 number plate.

KA-53 is the RTO code for the Krishnarajapuram (KR Puram) Regional Transport Office, which handles vehicle registration, driving licences and related services for East Bengaluru's IT corridor and Whitefield catchment. This page covers its address, contact details, jurisdiction, driving-test facility and services.

A few sites list this office's PIN as 560016 — that's actually the postal code for the nearby Krishnarajapura metro/railway station area, not for Bhattarahalli itself. Bhattarahalli's own PIN, independently confirmed across multiple postal directories, is 560049, as shown above.

KA-53 is the registration code for the Krishnarajapuram Regional Transport Office, operating under the Karnataka Transport Department. It's the licensing authority (Section 9) and registering authority (Section 39) under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, for East Bengaluru's IT corridor — an area that has grown rapidly with the tech-park belt running from Mahadevapura through Whitefield.

The office is located on Old Madras Road at Bhattarahalli, near KR Puram's namesake railway and metro station, and is often called the "KR Puram RTO" or "Bhattarahalli RTO" interchangeably.

KA-53 Jurisdiction

Several KA-53 services can be started or completed through Parivahan, Sarathi or Vahan without an office visit — this generally includes many registration-related applications, ownership-transfer paperwork, and licence renewals in a number of cases. Steps that typically still require attendance in person include the practical driving test, biometric verification for certain licence services, and vehicle fitness inspection.

The exact set of fully paperless services changes over time and wasn't something we could confirm service-by-service for this office. Use "start online, attend in person only where required" as the reliable general rule.

Driving Licence and the Automated Driving Test Track (ADTT)

KR Puram RTO conducts practical driving tests at an Automated Driving Test Track within the Bhattarahalli compound — a sensor-based test rather than a manual pass/fail call, following the same model used at a handful of other Karnataka RTOs. Two-wheeler and four-wheeler tests use separate tracks within the same compound.

The test track sits within the RTO's own premises rather than at a separate address, but it's still a functionally distinct step from counter services — expect a separate queue, a booked slot, and a different verification process from routine registration or licence-renewal counters. We have not verified current appointment rules, waiting times, or the exact sensor layout, so none of that is stated here as settled fact. Book and confirm your test slot through Sarathi.

Commercial Vehicle Fitness

Commercial and heavy-vehicle fitness inspections for KA-53 are handled at the Bhattarahalli inspection ground, within the same RTO complex but run as a separate process from administrative counter services. We have not independently verified current inspection scheduling — confirm by phone before sending a vehicle for testing.

Visiting and Reaching KA-53

The RTO sits on Old Madras Road (NH-75) at Bhattarahalli, close to KR Puram's railway and metro hub:

• Metro: Krishnarajapura (KR Puram) station, on the Purple Line since March 2023, is the closest and best-connected metro stop — it sits on the same Old Madras Road corridor as the RTO and connects to KR Puram railway station via footbridge. A Blue Line connection is under construction at the same station. We don't have a confirmed walking distance from the station to the RTO building, so plan your final leg by auto or a short cab ride. (Some transit-routing tools point instead to Pattandur Agrahara, several stops further out in Whitefield — that doesn't match its actual location relative to Bhattarahalli, so we're not repeating that suggestion here.)

• Bus (BMTC): Several BMTC routes serve Old Madras Road in this corridor (numbering in the 300s, consistent with the established Old Madras Road route series). Bus numbers change often enough that we'd rather point you to BMTC's own route planner than publish a list that goes stale.

• Road: Old Madras Road (NH-75) is the main approach; it's a known traffic bottleneck, so allow extra time, especially in the morning.

• Parking: Limited inside the RTO compound. Arriving by two-wheeler, auto, or metro-plus-short-walk is more reliable than driving in.
