Overview of the FAME II Subsidies in India

FAME II Scheme Basics

The FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) scheme is India’s central EV incentive plan. Rolled out with a budget of ₹10,000 crore, it aims to accelerate EV adoption by subsidizing vehicles and supporting infrastructure.

Here are some of the highlights of subsidies under FAME-II

Vehicle Type Subsidy Rate Max Cap
Electric Scooter ₹10,000–₹15,000 per kWh ₹30,000–₹45,000 approx.
Electric Car (Fleet) 20–40% of cost ₹1.5 lakh
Electric Auto ₹25,000 Per vehicle

To check if your vehicle qualifies, refer to the official website of the Department of Heavy Industries.

4-Wheeler Subsidy Under FAME II

  • Applies to commercial electric cars, not personal vehicles (except in select states)
  • Subsidy up to ₹1.5 lakh or 40% of vehicle cost
  • Valid for registered fleet operators, ride-hailing, and delivery vehicles

Though FAME II kicked off on 1 April 2019 with a budget of ₹10,000 crore, the scheme was implemented only through 31 March 2024.

After that, the central government shifted incentives into new frameworks such as the PM E‑DRIVE scheme. Therefore when you refer to “FAME II subsidy details for 2025”, it’s important to highlight that many central incentives have changed — and what remains is state-level support or legacy approvals under FAME II.

How to Check FAME II Subsidy Status

It’s always easy for you to keep track of your subsidy status under FAME II. You can also use the FAME II subsidy calculator whenever it meets your needs,

Punjab, MP, Telangana, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, WB, Uttarakhand – EV Subsidy Fame II

For the rest of the states, you can find some critical subsidies under FAME listed below.

  • Punjab: ₹5,000 per kWh
  • Madhya Pradesh (MP): ₹7,500 per scooter
  • Telangana: 20% of e-scooter cost (max ₹10,000)
  • Gujarat: ₹6,000 per kWh (up to ₹20,000)
  • Chhattisgarh: No additional subsidy (FAME only)
  • Bihar: ₹5,000 flat per scooter
  • West Bengal: ₹5,000 per kWh
  • Uttarakhand: Up to ₹5,000 under new draft policy

What replaces FAME II for 2025 and beyond?

Once FAME II closed on 31 March 2024 (for new registrations), the government notified the PM E-DRIVE scheme in September 2024 with an outlay of ~₹10,900 crore for two years, aimed at supporting e-2Ws, e-3Ws, e-trucks, e-buses and charging infrastructure.

For buyers in 2025, you should check if your vehicle model is approved under PM E-DRIVE (or any existing scheme listed by the Ministry of Heavy Industries) and whether any subsidy is still passed to the dealer.

How to combine central + state subsidies

In many states, the state-level EV subsidy can be stacked with the central incentive (where applicable) but this depends on the specific implementation. For example, a buyer in Karnataka may get a state subsidy (if policy active) in addition to a central scheme benefit—therefore the total upfront discount increases.
It’s important to:

  1. Verify the vehicle model is approved under the central scheme or successor (look at the MHI/official list).

  2. Confirm your state notification for subsidies is alive and you fulfil registration & local residency criteria.

  3. Ask the dealer whether the subsidy is passed at the point of sale (reduced ex-showroom price) or reimbursed later.

Electric Auto & 3-Wheeler Subsidy

Are you a fleet operator aiming to purchase or lease a catalogue of three-wheelers? Here’s what you need to know about the subsidies.

Electric Auto Rickshaw

Under FAME II, all-electric autos qualify for a subsidy of ₹25,000 per vehicle.

  • Applies to new registrations post-approval
  • Vehicle must be on the FAME-approved list

E-Rickshaw Subsidy by State

Uttar Pradesh ₹12,000
Delhi ₹30,000
Assam ₹10,000
Maharashtra ₹20,000

Upcoming Changes & Extensions

Needless to say, the FAME subsidy is scheduled to be extended. FAME-III will launch in late 2025 and will continue to stay relevant through 2026 (and beyond).

EV Subsidy FAME III Plans (Expected)

  • FAME III to launch in late 2025
  • Likely to increase subsidy caps
  • May include personal 4-wheelers under select guidelines
  • Incentives for battery swapping infra, buses, and EV retrofits

State Policy Updates

  • Karnataka: Draft 2025 policy includes incentives for rural EV use
  • Tamil Nadu: Considering scrappage-linked incentives
  • Maharashtra: Expected return of ₹10,000 per scooter in the next phase

₹5,000 per kWh with a max cap of ₹7,500.

Yes. Under FAME II, every electric auto qualifies for a ₹25,000 subsidy.

3. How to apply for CNG kit in Hyderabad?

Visit our Telangana RTO guide for fuel-conversion application steps.

4. Can I claim FAME II subsidy for a new electric car in 2025?

Probably not under FAME II itself for fresh purchases, since the scheme ended at 31 March 2024 for new registrations. You should check if the car is eligible under PM E-DRIVE or a state policy.

5. Does the subsidy come to me or is it given to the dealer?

Typically the incentive is passed on by the manufacturer/dealer (deducted from purchase price) rather than you filing a separate claim. Always confirm at point-of-sale.

Conclusion

Whether you’re eyeing a stylish Ola scooter or a commercial Tata Tigor EV, there’s a subsidy scheme waiting for you—from ₹7,500 state-level incentives to ₹1.5 lakh under FAME II.
